Chapter Thirty-one

I sat on the floor in my bedroom, the lights off, the window open and my arms propped on the windowsill as I stared out into the night sky. I could hear the waves slapping up against the beach, I could smell the water, and I could see thousands of stars in the dark, clear night.

This had always been my thinking place. I don’t know if looking up at all those stars made me realize how insignificant my problems were or if I felt they brought me closer to God, listening to my problems. Whatever my subconscious internal workings, this was the place I had gone since I was a little girl. And this was the place I found myself after the troubling conversation in the kitchen.
